Neolentinus lepideus (Fr.) Redhead & Gins
(Syn. Lentinus lepideus)
Found growing on rotting pine logs in a coastal walkway on the Tauranga Harbour.
The young fruiting bodies start off quite white, and darken as they age, the gills becoming yellow. They have quite a solid woody feel to them.
These large specimens were 32 cm in diameter.
