Hydropus funebris (Speg.) Singer
Usually found under beech. It could easily be mistaken for a Mycena. This small mushroom grows amongst twigs and leaf litter. Cap diam: up to 15 mm.
The brown patches on a lighter coloured cap help to make this species recogniseable.
Hydropus nigrita (Berk. & M.A. Curtis) Singer
At first glance I though this was a Pluteus as it was growing on wood. When I picked one I found that it turned black where tissues had been damaged. By the time I got the specimen home it had turned completely black.
This photo shows a microscopic view of the blackened tissues.
The photo to the left shows some tissues starting to blacken.
