Flammulina velutipes (Curtis) Singer
This yellowish to golden brown species is found in clusters on wood in both native and introduced forests. It is a world-wide species, but the NZ specimens are thought to be a distinct variety.
The cap is viscid, about 30–80 mm diam. and has pale yellowish gills. The velvety stipe is tough, yellow at the top and dark towards the base.
