Cortinarius violaceovolvatus var. viola (Soop) A.R. Nilsen & Orlovich
This species is found throughout both the North Is and South Is. It is very similar to C. prophyroideus and microscopy was required to identify this one.
C. porphyroideus is so far only known from a site near Wellington.
