Asplenium bulbiferum
Also known as the "Hen and Chickens Fern".
Found throughout the country.
The second image shows the little bulbils that have formed on a frond of this fern, making this fern easily identifiable. These bulbils are used to propagate this fern.



Asplenium flaccidum
A very common epiphytic fern.
This image shows part of a fertile frond of Asplenium flaccidum.


Asplenium oblongifolium
Common in the North Island in coastal and lower montane areas, and in coastal parts of the upper South Island.
Asplenium richardii
Found in cooler mountainous areas.
Asplenium obtusatum
Has tough fronds and found in coastal areas of the South Island.
Asplenium polyodon
Found throughout the North Island and in some parts of the South Island. Mainly epiphytic or on fallen logs.
Asplenium flabellifolium
Found throughout the country.
Aspleniaceae
The characteristics of this family are latticed scales on the fronds and rhizomes, and the sori and indusia (thin tissue covering the sori) are elongated along the veins as shown in the first image below.
