Hypnum cupressiforme
Common in the forest as well as grassland and banks.
The colour can be green or have a goldy tint. The leaves are always strongly curved to one side.
Under the microscope there may be no nerve visible, or it can be faint, short and double.
A mature capsule of H. chrysogaster.
A not-the-best shot of the capsule of H. chrysogaster showing the tiny apiculus on the tip of the operculum - something which differs from H. cupressiforme.
Ctenidium pubescens
Found on soil, rock, tree bases, and tree trunks.
Hypnum chrysogaster
There are several forms of this species, with some being densely branched while others are more sparsely branched.
Hypnaceae
These mosses have creeping stems. The leaves taper gradually from the base, whereas some other mosses taper abruptly at the apex.
