Calvatia sp.

This species has a brain-like appearance. It is indigenous to New Zealand and has been incorrectly called Calvatia craniiformis but that is a Northern Hemispere species.It is pale brown and can grow up to 20 cm wide.

Calvatia gigantea (Batsch) Lloyd

Known as the giant puffball, this white species can grow to 50 cm diameter or even larger under exceptional circumstances. It is found in pastures and under exotic trees.

Lycoperdon utriforme Bull.

(Syn: Calvatia utriformis)

The pattern of scales on this make it an easily recognisable puffball. Diam: 35–50 mm.
