Bartramiaceae
Genus: Breutalia
I usually find these alongside tracks, growing in damp clay soils and in fairly sunny conditions.
Breutalia elongata
This one was quite conspicuous with its gold colouring and orange-red discs on the ends of the shoots.
These discs are the male reproductive organs.
Breutalia pendula
This one was also easily recogniseable as a Breutalia with the conspicuous tips of its branches.
The capsules of Breutalia pendula.
The capsules of Philonotis scarifolia.
This image shows the papillae on the leaf.
This feature distinguishes it from other members of this family.
Philonotis tenuis
This species is quite easily recognised when bearing capsules.
It is also found growing on exposed sunny banks.
Genus: Philonotis
Philonotis scabrifolia
This moss has a distinctive blue-green colour. The way the branchlets form at the top of the stem gives it an umbrella look.
