Although these fungi appear to have gills, evidence from DNA studies places them in boletes.

The cap can be various shades of brown, from dark brown when young to a yellowish brown when mature. The cap has a dry, finely felted cap surface which can vary from a covex to a centrally depressed shape. Cap diam: 25–90 mm.
