Morchella importuna M. Kuo, O'Donnell & T.J. Volk

This is a distinctive sac fungus with a honeycomb-like appearance of the cap. Size: 40 x 20 mm. This type of fungus is commonly known as a morel. Many of the ones seen in NZ are introduced and found with exotic trees, but there are some undescribed native species.

Morchella sp.

There are some undescribed native species of morels, like this one shown here. The native species I have seen have been growing out of banks in the bush.
