Hygrocybe blanda

These are very small - cap diameter about 7-10mm, sometimes up to 15mm. Notice that the cap is striate (stripey-looking). This feature, and its small size make it easy to tell from Hygrocybe. procera.

Hygrocybe elegans

This species can be quite a brilliant orange with lighter colours towards the edge of the cap.

Hygrocybe procera

The cap is dry, up to 50 mm diameter and the stipe can be quite tall - 80 or 90 mm. Found growing in soil on a bank, amongst mosses and leaf debris. It appears early in autumn.

Can be confused with Hygrocybe blanda. which is much smaller (cap diam 7-10mm, has a striate edge to the cap, and tends to appear later - in winter.
