This tan brown to purplish brown species is found in groups on fallen beech branches and twigs. The cap is striate towards the margin and diam. is up to 20 mm. The gills are cream in colour. This species smells of garlic, though some people describe it as rotten cabbage.

A small pale fawn species with a darker centre. The fruiting bodies often closely overlap. Cap diam: 3–20 mm. These also smell of rotten cabbage or garlic when crushed.
