A dark brown species with a distinctly depressed cap. Cap diam: 10–30 mm. The cap is scurfy, especially at the centre. The gills are pale at first, becoming pale pink-beige. Their attachment is adnate to arcuate-decurrent. The stipe is a pale beige-grey. This species has a strong farinaceous or rancid odour. Found in mixed broadleaf-podocarp forest.
