Aseroe rubra Labill. Belonging to the “Stinkhorns” this fungus has a strong putrid odour. The red arms are deeply divided into two and are 40–60 mm long. The smelly brown slime contains the spores. It attracts flies which then inadvertently spread the spores. It grows in leaf litter in native forests as well as in garden mulch. |
