Ascocoryne sarcoides (Jacq.) J.W. Groves & D.E. Wilson This purple ascomycete can appear as a jelly fungus or as a cup, depending on which stage of its life cycle it is at. The cup is its sexual (teleomorphic) stage where it produces asci and spores. Diam: 5–15 mm.
The jelly-like stage in the second image is its asexual (anamorphic) stage where it produces conidia (asexual spores). It is found on rotting wood. |
