Pseudohydnum gelatinosum

This unusual-looking fungus can be difficult to spot as it is a dull greyish-brown. It is not until you pick it up and look underneath that you can see these spines.

The stem of the specimen shown to the right is probably longer than what is usually seen. Some of them appear to have no stem at all and can look like a grey blob of jelly growing on rotting wood.
