Pholiota glutinosa (Massee) E. Horak
The largest of the NZ Pholiota species, this forms large clusters on decaying logs. The glutinous cap is golden yellow with darker scales. These scales can wash off, leaving the cap bare. Cap diam: to 100 mm.
Pholiota chrysmoides Soop
This is a yellowish mushroom with orange-brown colours towards the centre. Cap diam: up to 60 mm. The gills are yellow. It resembles Cortinarius chrysma, but C. chrysma is never found on wood.
Pholiota multicingulata var. hanmerensis Soop
A species with a yellow-brown cap with brown squamules on it. The cap is viscid to dry, and has a diam. up to 60 mm.
Pholiota subflammans (Speg.) Sacc
This species is yellowish brown with light coloured scales on the cap. Cap diam: 40–60 mm.
